Week 4: Facebook hit with antitrust investigation by eight states and DC


Letitia James, an attorney in New York, announced that the District of Columbia and eight states has launched an investigation against Facebook. The investigation is because of Facebook’s impacts on advertising prices, data, consumer privacy, Instagram and WhatsApp.

This announcement came days before a separate antitrust investigation against Google was announced that is being led by Texas. There is a concern with policymakers that Silicon Valley may be harming competitors. Therefore, the Judiciary Committee has decided to launch an entire investigation against Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google.

Typically, companies rig their systems for their favor, without an honesty to their publics. People are becoming more aware of this and are distrusting these big corporations more and more. The senate Judiciary Committee launched an antitrust panel acknowledging large platforms such as Facebook and Google.

These large companies focus is money. How to get money, and how to maintain their money. These companies will do anything to keep making monAt some point of time there needs to be laws put into place to combat theses advertising pricing, data and consumer privacy.
ey. As long as there are no rules for these companies, there will still be distrust amongst the public. I understand wanting to be ahead of the competition and doing whatever it takes to get there, but at what cost.
